Overview

Business Insights answers common merchandising questions from your sales data: which SKUs sell fastest or slowest, which stores perform best, which categories win in each Indian season, and how channel partners compare. Every figure carries a provenance badge so you can see whether it is an Actual figure, a Derived one, or Unavailable. The pages are under Insights in the sidebar: Overview, SKU Velocity, Store Performance, Season Analysis, Channel Partners, Ask Insights and Data Capture.

Guidelines

  1. Check data freshness first

The strip at the top of the Overview shows when the insight data was last refreshed (for example As of 3 hours ago). If you have edit access you can click Refresh to start a new refresh.

  2. Read the provenance badge

Actual figures come straight from well-populated data. Derived figures are calculated from other data, and show a percentage telling you how much of your data they are based on. Unavailable means there is no source data yet.

  3. Fill gaps through Data Capture

Metrics such as footfall conversion stay unavailable until the data exists. Use Insights → Data Capture to add daily footfall per store.

Steps

  1. Step 1: Start on the Overview

Go to Insights → Overview. Cards for SKU Velocity, Store Performance, Season Analysis, Channel Partners and Ask Insights show a headline figure and link to each page. Data readiness lists any metric that has no source data yet, with the reason.

  2. Step 2: Find fast and slow movers

Open Insights → SKU Velocity. Choose Fastest or Slowest, how many to show (Top 10, 20 or 50), the Period (last 7, 30, 90 or 365 days), Price band, Store and a Unit price ₹ range. Tick Include low-exposure SKUs to show SKUs that are hidden by default. The Velocity × price quadrant plots each SKU by velocity and price, and the ranked list shows unit price, tier, units and velocity.

  3. Step 3: Compare stores

Open Insights → Store Performance and choose a Period. Sales by state is a map of India; click a state to filter the Store league, or Clear filter to show all. The league ranks stores by Net sales. Click a row to open its Store scorecard with Bills, Units, Basket, ASP, UPT and Growth.

  4. Step 4: See which categories win each season

Open Insights → Season Analysis. Choose an Attribute (such as Department, Brand or Price band), a Season (Summer, Monsoon, Autumn / Festive or Winter) and Winners or Losers. The list shows Units, Net sales and Index for each attribute. Mis-timed stock lists merchandise bought for one season that is selling in another.

  5. Step 5: Compare channel partners

Open Insights → Channel Partners and choose a Period. The Partner league shows Sold value and SKU match rate for each partner, and Partner × category affinity shows which partner sells which category better than your overall mix.

  6. Step 6: Ask a question

Open Insights → Ask Insights, type a question in Your question (for example which are my 20 fastest moving skus?) and click Ask. The answer names the metric to look at and links to the right page with View this on the … page. It does not produce numbers itself.

  7. Step 7: Capture footfall

Open Insights → Data Capture. Under Import from CSV, choose a file with the columns site_code, business_date and footfall_count, check the preview, then click Confirm import. To add a single day, use Manual daily entry: pick the Store, Date and Footfall count, then click Add. The Coverage grid shows which stores have footfall for each of the last 30 days.

Terms

Velocity

Units sold per week, measured over the days between the SKU's first and last sale in the period. Shown as u/wk.

Velocity × price quadrant

SKUs at or above the median velocity are Heroes if in the PREMIUM or LUXE price band, otherwise Traffic drivers. Below the median, PREMIUM and LUXE SKUs are Dead capital and the rest are Dead weight.

Index (Season Analysis)

The attribute's share of sales in that season divided by its share of sales across the year, times 100. Above 100 means it sells better than usual in that season.

ASP, UPT and Basket

ASP is net sales per unit, UPT is units per bill, and Basket is net sales per bill.

Footfall conversion

Bills divided by footfall for the store. It needs daily footfall to be captured.

Affinity index

Above 100 means a partner over-indexes in that category compared with your organisation's overall category mix.

Key points

  • Every figure shows whether it is Actual, Derived or Unavailable.

  • Ask Insights points you to the right metric; it never invents numbers.

  • Add footfall in Data Capture to unlock footfall conversion.

Notes

  • Insights appears in the sidebar only when the Business Insights module is enabled for your organisation. Channel Partners also needs the Channel Partner module.

  • Ask Insights needs an AI provider to be set up in Settings. If none is set up, the page shows a link to configure one.

  • Import from CSV appears only for users with organisation-wide edit access to records. Manual daily entry lists only the stores you can edit.

FAQs

Why do Return rate, Footfall conversion and Sales / sq ft show no figures?

There is no source data for them yet. Return rate has no capture path, footfall conversion needs daily footfall (add it in Data Capture), and sales per sq ft needs each store's trading area.

How fresh is the data?

Check the strip at the top of the Overview, which shows when the last refresh finished and whether one is running. Users with edit access can click Refresh to start one.

Some SKUs seem to be missing from SKU Velocity. Why?

Low-exposure SKUs are hidden by default and the page tells you how many. Tick Include low-exposure SKUs to show them.
