On this page
Overview
Use New Promotion for a discount worth a percentage or a flat amount, applied automatically or with a code. Use New Offer for a discount based on how many units are bought: Buy X · Get Y or Quantity Tiers. Both forms share the same store, catalogue and schedule settings.
Guidelines
Name it so staff recognise it
Use a name that says what the offer is and where it applies, such as Monsoon Menswear 15%. The name appears on the Promotions list and on discounted sales.
Add one target per level
Targets widen a promotion, they never narrow it. Adding a division alongside a section inside it means the whole division qualifies. To limit an offer, add only the narrowest target.
Check the preview
In New Offer, read the Preview before saving. It spells out the rule in plain words, so a mistyped quantity is easy to spot.
Steps
Step 1: Start a new promotion
Go to Promotions and click New Promotion. The form has five sections: Discount, Application mode, Schedule, Where it runs and What it applies to.
Step 2: Set the discount
Under Discount, enter a Name (required) and an optional Description. Choose the Type: Percentage (%) or Flat amount (₹), then enter the Percent off or Amount off (₹). Optionally set a Minimum cart value (₹) and a Maximum discount cap (₹). Choose Applies to: Each matching item or Whole cart (split across items). Set the Priority (lower runs first), and tick Can combine with other promotions on the same item if it should stack.
Step 3: Choose how it is applied
Under Application mode, choose Automatic at checkout or Promotion or coupon code. For a code, choose the Code audience: Internal manual (POS operator or admin only), Public advertised shared code, Limited-distribution unique coupon pool or Specific customer assigned code. Optionally set Uses per customer.
Step 4: Schedule it
Under Schedule, set Starts and Ends, and choose the Status: Active or Paused. Optionally set Maximum total uses; leave it blank for unlimited.
Step 5: Choose the stores
Under Where it runs, tick the stores. If you tick none, the promotion runs at every store.
Step 6: Choose what it applies to
Under What it applies to, choose a Level (Division, Section, Department, Product Group or Brand) and a Value, then click Add. Tick Add as an exclusion before clicking Add to leave that part out. With no targets, it applies to the whole catalogue. Click Remove to take a target off.
Step 7: Save the promotion
Click Create Promotion. The form checks that there is a name, that the discount is more than zero, that a percentage is no more than 100%, and that the end date is not before the start date.
Step 8: Issue codes for a code promotion
On the promotion's row, click Issue codes. For a shared or internal code, type the code and click Create code. For a coupon pool, enter a Batch label and the Number of unique coupons, then click Generate one-time batch. For a customer code, enter the Customer ID (shown on the customer's Profile tab) and click Assign customer code. Copy the codes straight away; they are not shown again.
Step 9: Build a quantity offer
Click New Offer and choose Buy X · Get Y or Quantity Tiers. For Buy X · Get Y, set Buy (units), Get (units), the Reward (% off or ₹ off) and its value (100% means free), Count units as, Reward the (Cheapest qualifying unit or Most expensive unit) and Max times per bill. For Quantity Tiers, set Count units as, then for each tier Buy at least (units) and Discount (% off each); use Add tier for more. Set targets, stores and schedule as above, and click Create Offer.
Terms
- Maximum discount cap (₹)
The most the promotion can take off. For a quantity offer it limits the offer's total discount.
- Count units as
Which units are counted together, such as any items in the selection, the same SKU, the same article or the same brand.
- Reward pool
In Buy X · Get Y, tick The reward comes from a different category to choose the reward items separately, using Pool: Qualifies or Reward.
Key points
In Quantity Tiers, the highest tier a basket reaches applies to every qualifying unit in it.
A Buy X · Get Y offer repeats as often as the basket allows, unless you set Max times per bill.
Limited coupon pool and customer-assigned codes are shown once only, when they are issued.
Notes
Quantity offers are applied automatically; New Offer has no code option.
A quantity offer can be edited only in the offer editor, which opens when you click Edit on its row.
If a broader target sits alongside a narrower one, New Offer shows a warning that the offer will apply to everything inside the broader target.
FAQs
When should I choose Whole cart instead of Each matching item?
Choose Whole cart (split across items) for a discount on the bill total, such as ₹500 off. It is shared across the items. Choose Each matching item to take the discount off every qualifying item.
How do I make a buy 2 get 1 free offer?
Click New Offer, choose Buy X · Get Y, set Buy (units) to 2 and Get (units) to 1, and leave Reward at % off with a value of 100.
Why does my offer apply to more items than expected?
Targets widen an offer. If you added a division and a section inside it, the whole division qualifies. Remove the broader target.
