How promotions work at the till
The kinds of promotion you can run, how the till decides which ones apply, and how priority and combining work.

Overview
Promotions are discounts the till applies automatically, or when a customer gives a code. A promotion can take a percentage or a flat amount off, run as a Buy X · Get Y offer, or give a bigger discount the more units are bought (Quantity Tiers). You choose which stores it runs at and which parts of the catalogue it covers. Leave stores or catalogue targets empty to mean everywhere.
Guidelines
Start narrow
Pick the stores and catalogue targets first. A promotion with nothing chosen runs at every store on the whole catalogue.
Leave combining off unless you mean it
Only tick Can combine with other promotions on the same item when customers should get both discounts on one item.
Pause instead of deleting
Use Pause to stop a promotion for now. You can Activate it again later with the same settings.
Steps
Step 1: Open Promotions
Click Promotions in the sidebar. Each row shows the Promotion with a one-line summary of the offer, Where it runs, What it applies to, when it Runs, how much has been Given away so far and in how many sales, and its Status.
Step 2: Choose the kind of promotion
Click New Promotion for a percentage or flat-amount discount, either automatic or with a code. Click New Offer for a quantity offer: Buy X · Get Y (for example buy 2 get 1 free) or Quantity Tiers (for example 10% off at 2 units, 20% off at 4).
Step 3: Know when a promotion is live
The till uses a promotion only when its status is Active, today is between its start and end dates, it has not reached its Maximum total uses, and the sale is at one of its stores. A promotion that needs a code also needs that code to be entered at checkout.
Step 4: Understand the order promotions run in
Promotions run in Priority order, lowest number first. Promotions applied to each matching item run first. Whole-cart promotions run after them, on what is left to pay, and the discount is shared across the items. A Minimum cart value (₹) must be reached before a promotion applies.
Step 5: Understand combining
Once a promotion that can't combine has discounted an item, no later promotion discounts that item. Where a code promotion is involved, every promotion on that item must be marked Can combine with other promotions on the same item. Once a whole-cart promotion that can't combine is applied, no further whole-cart promotions apply.
Step 6: Pause, edit or delete
Use Pause or Activate to switch a promotion off or on, and Edit to change it. Quantity offers open in the offer editor. For a code promotion, Issue codes creates its codes. Delete removes the promotion.
Terms
- Priority
The order promotions are tried in. Lower numbers run first.
- Stackable
A promotion marked Can combine with other promotions on the same item.
- Target
A division, section, department, product group or brand that a promotion applies to. With no targets, it applies to the whole catalogue.
- Exclusion
A target the promotion must not apply to. Exclusions always win over inclusions.
Key points
No stores selected means every store; no catalogue targets means the whole catalogue.
Lower Priority numbers run first. New quantity offers start at 50, so they run before value promotions, which start at 100.
Discounts are taken off the GST-inclusive price, and GST is then worked out on what the customer actually pays.
Notes
You can create and change promotions only if your role has edit access to Promotions.
Warnings
Deleting a promotion can't be undone. Discounts already given on past sales are kept for reporting. To stop it for now, use Pause instead.
FAQs
Why didn't a promotion apply to a sale?
Check that it is Active, today is within its dates, the store is one of its stores (or none are chosen), the item matches its targets and isn't excluded, the cart reached any Minimum cart value (₹), and an earlier promotion that can't combine hasn't already claimed the item.
Two promotions match the same item. Which one wins?
The one with the lower Priority number runs first. If it can't combine, the other one does not apply to that item.
How does a customer use a code?
The code is entered at checkout on the till. The promotion then applies if the basket qualifies.
